The song was born 14 years ago in the music classroom of a municipal junior high school in Chichibu, Saitama Prefecture. The then-principal, Noboru Kojima, 74, wrote the lyrics overnight and asked the music teacher to put them to music the following morning.

The song was meant as a present for the graduating students,'' explained Kojima when I saw him to hear his story. ``All the teachers got up on the platform and sang the song. This was supposed to be a one-time performance.''

Kojima reached his mandatory retirement age in March that year, but the song stayed. The following year, a music magazine printed the score just before the graduation season, and many primary, junior high and senior high schools around the nation picked it up. The simple lyrics caught the hearts of youngsters: ``The voice of my dear old friend/ Suddenly comes back/ With the memory of that time/I wept when we fought over something silly.''

n a departure from the past, many schools now let their students choose the song for the graduation ceremony. Instead of the traditional, government-approved numbers, Kojima's song, which is something of a summation of his 40-year teaching career, is being sung and heard around the nation this month.

this is about a japanese fictional story based on 2 individuals who can only meet once in every few years (or something like that). during this period, they would try to convey each other's feelings. this song was played in hwa chong's concert. listen out for the solos (like the saxaphone) who represents the person who's in love.

this grade 3 piece is famous in the band scene for highschool bands. i would say the credits would mostly go to its composer, James Swearingen. this piece is common among band concerts/SYF choice pieces. it was published in 1990 and it is a folksetting composition that relfects on the beauty and hstory of the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.

another important thing is the crescent girls concert replies. i really REALLY need it asap. because we need to reply to the band for the no. of tickets that we need. (please refer to the previous post for the details of the concert). went for leadership camp and nco (band major) camp :).

anyways. i'm here to post about crescent's upcoming concert.
i'll talk about it more after our exams are over and when the date is nearing.

the concert would be held on 21st nov. friday at 7:30pm.
venue would be at yong siew toh conservatory hall. tickets are $15 each.
they would be playing iris, march blue sky, kaze no mai, singapore experience and any more.

hi band!

ok. in case you have not heard about it yet,
this sunday MUSART would be playing in esplanade.
the title of performance is called BEAUTIFUL SUNDAY.
It starts around 3pm and ends around 4pm.
But i suggest you guys to go there by 2:30pm because it would be very crowded :).
i wont be coming because i would probably have church.
from what i heard i think you'd probably meet some crescent,haising and anglican people there :).
so i hope you guys consider going ok? the pieces would be light
and you guys need the experience. money isnt an issue now since it'd be free.

Also, i might consider standardising 1 band gathering/outing per term.

Since we would be having End of Years soon, i might postphone term 3's gathering/outing after the exams.
If you guys have suggestions/ideas/comments please say them out :). (through SL/exco/me)
i was thinking of BBQ but the plan is not there yet because exco have not decided!
if you guys want something please tell us because this is usually an official thing.
(this means that what you want and your comments matters alot)
(it'd also be boring to do the same thing over and over again)
(and if you guys wanna help plan or help out with the gatherings please inform exco/me)

also, please remember to continue listening to the sunken village okay :).

"The Sunken Village" vividly describes the scene of a village, obviously unaware of the menace. This can be heard from the initial bars of gloomy long notes, the clashing music of the happy parade apparent in the score, clashes as the menace grows louder, giving the audience a sense that the villagers are oblivious to impending danger.

Finally, it climaxes as almost everyone plays their long notes while some people run their notes
Then, the music score starts to go very fast, highlighting the panic of the villagers as the scramble away from devastation. At the end, towards the last fifty bars, a gloomy shadow is cast over the song and song ends in a whimper rather than with a bang as the whole village had been destroyed & sunk, disappearing without a trace from the world and never to be a happy village again.

HEY FSB PALS!
first of all, thank you YU PEI for volunteering to do up this FSB blog, lets make this blog last looong alright! (:

secondly, great job to the founders day band pals, you all had to take time off your busy schedules to represent the band in this thing. hahaha but i must say you all looked ultra cool on stage with your red blazers and instruments, you guys were the most outstanding! haha, keren,shaine and i shouted "GO FSB" at the end, but i know you all didnt hear us because we were right at the back. haha but anyway, hope you all had fun being on stage even though it was a really short time. and i know you all have gotten to know each other through the practices and long waiting times, i could see it when you all were laughing like mad when i visited you all at dinner time and also on the field. you did the band proud(:

anyway, there's no more band practices on monday! but be reminded that the band room will be opened for those who want to practice and have sectionals. remember that the concert is on 5th dec and we have less than 3 months to master all our pieces. so please work hard!
and also, remember to get the recording of The Sunken Village and listen to it at least 3 times a day(: you can get it from me/keren online or through email.

okay gtg now! it's 2am already haha!
